Kelvin’s Taste 100% Guyanese Cassareep, Complete Cassava


Cassareep is a thick black liquid made from cassava root, often with additional spices, which is used as a base for many sauces and especially in Guyanese pepperpot. Besides use as a flavouring and browning agent, it is commonly regarded as a food preservative. A variation called pepperpot is made by adding chicken, fish or beef to the sauce.

Cassareep has a very distinct taste and smell. It is often used in cooking to give a deep flavour to many foods such as ackee, pepperpot and saltfish. Cassareep is a very popular condiment in Guyanese cuisine. It is used as a base for many sauces and especially in pepperpot, the national dish of Guyana.
